Atomic Auto, located at 2510 NE Sandy Blvd. in Portland, has gained recognition from EcoBiz for their commitment to protecting the environment. EcoBiz is a voluntary certification administered by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and local government agencies. The certification was completed by Owner Travis Decker and General Manager Cale Pelton.
Atomic is currently beta testing an auto shop management app called Shop-Ware, which allows techs to complete service checklists, collect payments, and record maintenance electronically. This new technology adds greater transparency to the car repair industry, allowing techs to share photos and request approval for repairs in a no-pressure environment, by text message or email.
Atomic completed the certification by making key improvements to their already efficient operation. Steps included:
- Adding secondary containment pallets and berms to prevent spills;
- Placing spill kits and response plans in key areas around the shop;
- Sorting and properly disposing of all unneeded chemicals, equipment, and waste; and
- Moving tires and scrap metal indoors, to prevent stormwater pollution.
